STATION 23 The Waldo Fire Department has served the City of Waldo for well over 50 years. In 1990 the department became a paid station, employing part time staff with a full time Fire Chief. The department currently employs 6 full time EMT/Firefighters on a 24-7 basis. Each of the three shifts (A,B,&C shift) is comprised of 2 EMT/Firefighters. On any given day you may even find one of the departments few remaining volunteers out helping to wash one of the trucks. The department recently added a new (American LaFrance) Class A Engine to it’s fleet. In addition, the Squad was refurbished (also by American LaFrance) to like new status be replacing the older 1990 Ford Chassis with a newer 2001 model Ford Chassis. The Department still has in its fleet a 1989 E-ONE Class A Engine, a 1979 GMC Tanker, as well as two 1960 model Military Deuces which are employed as off-road vehicles. We recently submitted a grant for receiving FEMA money to purchase a new Tanker. If awarded the FEMA Grant it is our intent to purchase a 3500 gal Tanker/Pumper, to round out our fleet of fire apparatus. The staff at the Fire Department is always happy to show anyone around whom might visit. We are glad to perform B/P checks. The department routinely installs smoke detectors for the elderly, which by the way can be supplied through the Alachua County Fire Department . Just call or come by for information on how to get yours. The Fire Department is always willing to help out around the city whenever possible.
